My
first love was horses. I progressed from stick horses
to the real thing at quite an early age for there was always
a horse to ride and lots of wide open country to ride in.
I lived, breathed, drew, read about and dreamed HORSES.
Shortly after my marriage, barrel racing come to Washington
State, and I rodeoed from 1960 to the late 70's. I was
the 1961 WBRA State Champion, quit for a few years, and then
rodeoed till a divorce, injuries, and the necessity to put
food on the table caused me to sell the horses
and go to work. |

I
had 12 years in the WBRA Top Ten, including a Res.
Championship, riding stallions, mares, geldings that I
trained myself. At this time I did artwork and was
published in national magazines, including the Western
Horseman that did a two page article on my art and barrel
racing. Also for two years, I wrote a monthly article
for a NW Quarter Horse magazine and when it ceased
publication, I was secretly pleased because I had run out of
things to write about! Until the divorce and the sale
of the horses, I managed the stallions, halterbroke
and gentled the foals, broke the two-year olds without
any assistance. This was while raising two boys and
all the housework, cooking, etc., that womanfolk are
expected to do. Looking back on it now amazes me.
Where did I get the energy to do all this? Makes me
want to take a nap just thinking about it!

Vicki
Dills, (who I have known since she was 8 years old)
has collected Rosewood Pottery and after the divorce
I began tagging along with her. Along the way
I began picking up cat cookie jars until I had
hundreds of the little buggers around! At that
time, cookie jars in this area were very cheap.
My "cats" eventually grew to about 300! My
collection garnered much interest among cookie
jar collectors and was featured in all the
cookie jar collector's publications. Due to my
lack of knowledge about this collecting business, I
had just gathered in jars willy-nilly without any
regard to their manufacturer, and apparently serious
collectors did it by manufacturer. Know anyone
who might be interested in purchasing a cat cookie
jar collection? PLEASE?? |

My
life has always been centered around animals and in
the 1980's, Pork, an 11" tan and white smooth
Jack Russell came into my life. Pork was a
marvelous introduction to the breed, (even tho she
was a puddin') and I was hooked.
Eventually, I was fortunate to contact a geniune
Southern gentleman by the name of Ken Chambers and
purchased some terriers from him, including
Barksalot's Ka-Cee Classic (Pogo) and
Barksalot's Ka-Cee Calamity....and I have been
"going to the dogs" ever since!
